Coming November 1st – What Am I Worth?

The launch of my blog, Recipes From the C-Suite – Topics and Recipes from One Female Leader to Another (recipesfromthecsuite.blog), did not launch quite as smoothly as I would have liked.  Believe it or not, I am not a techy, far from it actually!!!!  I launched the site, decided I didn’t like the way it looked, and sought professional help.  The result is amazing, I am very excited to re-launch with new and added features ahead of this month’s topic – including the ability for viewers to comment directly on the site and on each blog!

November’s blog will be titled – What am I Worth?  As a female, I often wondered if I was being paid what I was worth, but more importantly, was I being paid as much as my male counterparts.  I do believe equity has come a long way but we, as females, still have to do our homework and know how to start difficult conversations.  Stand up for ourselves and ask for what we are worth, not just be grateful and say thank you for what we are offered.

This topic was actually suggested by a previous coworker.  She is in her mid-twenties and wondering how, and when, she might be promoted.  I will discuss how important development plans and clear goals are in your growth both technically and financially.  You must have a roadmap with milestones and be able to document when those milestones are met.  I will also discuss changing companies to increase your salary – is that a smart long-term strategy?  This is a very timely topic as a pioneer for equal pay for women, Lilly Ledbetter, passed away on October 12th.

In my November 1st blog I will talk about my experiences and give tips on how to start those conversations and be effective in leading those conversations.  I am also excited to share one of my favorite fall recipes, think apples.  It will be very timely as I am headed to Maine this week and will be traveling home with as many Macintosh apples as I can carry!
